Flunssassa saa paljon aikaan! / The flu enables a lot!

Tammi-helmikuu on kulunut neuloen vaikka hiihtosäät ovat ollet mainiot. Tänä vuonna olen neulonut jo lähes 600g, mikä on aivan ennätysmäärä minulle. Ja kaikki ovat olleet ohuempia kuin 300g/100m. Ensimmäistä kertaa myös pidän kunnolla kirjaa langankulutuksestani.

Tähän mennessä olen neulonut tänä vuonna: 1 pitsihuivin, kahdet lapaset, yhdet lasten sukat ja viidet aikuisten sukat.

In January-February I have been knitting  a lot even though the skiing conditions have been beyond perfect. This year I've consumed nearly 600g of yarn, which is an exceptionally large amount for me. All the yarn used has been at least sport/fine or fingering/lace. For the first time I also keep track of the consumption.

So far this year I've knitted: 1 lace shawl, two pairs of mittens, one pair of kids' socks, and five pairs of adult socks.

Sukkafinlandian Harmonia -sukat, 62 g Regian sukkalankaa. Ensimmäistä kertaa onnistuin silmukoimaan kärjen, siitä oli erinomaiset ohjeet!

Nurmilintu-pitsihuivi, erivärisiä ohuita huivilankoja, paino 62 g.

Minulta näköjään puuttuu kuva yksistä lapasista. Malli on Spruce tree mittens (löytynee tällä nimellä Raverlysta) ja Onionin nokkoslankaa (Onion knit nettles+wool) meni 72 g.

I am apparently missing pictures of the Spruce tree mittens (can be found in Raverly). I used 72 grams of Onion Knits nettles+wool for this project.

Vuodenvaihteen käsitöitä / Knitting projects around New Year

Muutamaa tuntia ennen vuodenvaihdetta sain Dragonfly Rib Socks -sukat valmiiksi. Lankana Jawoll Magic ja sitä kului 68g. Vähän ovat reilut minulle, eli mietinnässä on, kenelle noin 41-jalkaiselle nämä voisi lahjoittaa.

A few hours before 2019 I finishes the Dragonfly Rib Socks. The yarn is Jawoll Magic and I used about 68g of it. These are a bit too big for me, so now I am thinking of who to give them to; someone with the foot size 41.

Vaikka on vasta viides päivä tammikuuta, voin laskea seuraavat valmiit neuletyöt jo tämän vuoden lankakulutukseen vaikka aloitin molemmat viime vuoden puolella. Lasten sukkien lankana on Noro ja ne painavat 27g.

Though it is only the fifth day of this year, I can count the following two projects into this years used yarns even though I started both last year. The kids' socks are knitted with Noro sock yarn and they weigh 27g.

Tämä liila malli on Andante Festivo, viime vuoden sukkafinlandian malli, jonka viimein sain valmiiksi. Lanka on ehkä Väinämöistä, en ole varma. Paino 68g.

Ilmoittauduin jälleen sukkafinlandiaan, ja nyt olen neulonut lämmittelysukkaa Fiskarsin harmaasta sukkalangasta. Huomenna loppiaisena julkaistaan ensimmäisen etapin ohje, jolle olen jo valinnut langankin! Eli heti herättyäni neulomaan. :) Jossain välissä voi käydä hiihtämässä, kun tänäänkin oli niin kivaa ladulla.

This purple pattern is called Andante Festivo, and it was it last year's Sock Finlandia competition. Now I've finally completed it! the yarn might be called Väinämöinen, I'm not sure. The weight is 68g.

This year I am again taking part in Sock Finlandia, and I've already been knitting the warming up socks out of Fiskars gray sock yarn. Tomorrow, epiphany day, the first leg of the competition will be published, and I've already picked out a yarn for the first leg! So knitting it will be as soon as I wake up. :) Although I would like to go skiing tomorrow as well, since it was so fun on the tracks today.

Eilen askartelin pitkästä aikaa kirjekuoria vanhoista kalentereista. Tällä kertaa kuoriksi päätyi päijäthämäläisiä maisemia, osa kuvista ihan tästä läheltä.

Yesterday I made some envelopes after a while. They are made of old calendars, and these are images from this area, some of them really close to our house.

Sukkia / Socks

Onhan vähän tullut neulottuakin, kahdet aikuisten sukat ja kahdet vauvansukat. Vihreästä Drops Delightista tein ensimmäisen sukan silloin keväällä eräässä kahdeksan tunnin koulutuksessa, ja toinen on saanut odottaa itseään ennen kuin eilen sain sen viimeisteltyä. Vaaleanpunaiset sukat taas aloitin lentokoneessa matkalla Yhdysvaltoihin, malli on yksi mun suosikeista: Embossed leaves. Lisäksi olen tehnyt kahdet junasukat, tosin toiset ehdin jo lähettää pian syntyvälle ehtimättä ottaa kuvaa, ja toiset ovat lehtisukkien langanjämästä (sama lanka, noin eri värinen kuva!).

I have been knitting something! I made two pairs of adult socks and two pairs of baby socks. The green socks are made from Drops Delight, and the first one I knitted last spring at an eight-hour training, and the other one I just finished yesterday. I started the pink socks on the airplane to USA, the pattern is one of my favorites: embossed leaves. I also knitted two pairs of baby socks called "junasukat" (train socks); the other pair I already sent to the recipient who will be born any day now, and I didn't remember to take a picture. The other pair is from the same yarn as the embossed leaves socks, the same yarn, such a different shade in the picture!

Tällä hetkellä minulla on "enää" 14 neulomisprojektia kesken, ja olen kehitellyt sääntöjä että uusia asusteita ei saa aloittaa ennen kuin on jotain saanut valmiiksi. Perussukat ovat poikkeus, niitä pitää aina olla yhdet kesken sillä se on niin aivoton projekti että joskus ei vaan jaksa muuta.

At the moment I have "only" 14 knitting projects in the making, and I've come up with rules that I cannot start new accessories before I finish something. Basic socks are an exception, since I always need to have one pair of basic socks on the needles because sometimes I have no energy to do anything more complicated.

I've been making envelopes from the craft papers that my Dutch pen pal sent me. <3

Ystäväni Amerikassa näytti istuttamaansa inkivääriä, ja siitä innostuin itsekin kokeilemaan kun yksi juurenpala näytti nahistuneelta ja siitä jo puski ulos jotain vihreää. Siispä hautasin sen pikkupalan ruukkuun ja nyt, parin viikon päästä, sieltä on tulossa peräti kaksi inkiväärinvartta!

A friend of mine in USA showed her ginger plant, and I also decided to try it because a piece of ginger root looked crumbled and there was already a tiny green sprout. So I buried the tiny piece of root into a pot, and now - two weeks later - there's two ginger stems sprouting!

Kahdet sukkafinlandia-sukat / Two pairs of Sock Finlandia -socks

Sukkafinlandiassa on julkaistu lämmittelysukkaohjeen lisäksi jo neljä etappia. Nämä keltaiset silja-langasta tehdyt sukat on etappi 2:n ohje nimeltään Kuvastin.

Besides the warm-up sock pattern, there's already four legs available on the Sock Finlandia knitting race. These yellow socks are the second leg, made out of silja yarn, and the pattern is called Kuvastin.

 

 Ladulle on päästy, viime vuoden puolella tosin ei tullut hiihdettyä kertaakaan. Nyt olen hiihtänyt jo sekä etelä-Suomessa että Pohjois-Karjalassa. Olen ajatellut että pitäisi ostaa sellaisen skinit, karvapohjasukset, joilla olisi parempi hiihtää pakkasellakin, kun nykyiset sukset (Fischer Classic Zero) ovat enempi nollakeleihin tai pieneen pakkaseen.

I've been going crosscountry skiing, even though I didn't ski at all before New Year. I've been skiing in southern Finland as well as in North Karelia. I've been thinking of buying another pair of skis, skins, which have fur underneath, since they would be better for the minus degree weather. My skis are Fischer Classic Zero and work better when the temperature is close to zero.

Uudenvuodenreissulla tarttui lentoasemalta ihanasta espanjalaisesta kaupasta (Ale-Hop) monta rullaa teippejä mukaan. Oli kiire koneeseen niin ei siinä kovin ehtinyt valikoimaan ja koska ne olivat niin edullisia niin nappasin useamman paketin!

At the airport on our New Year trip I grabbed some tapes with me. The lovely Spanish store is called Ale-Hop. We were in a hurry to catch the plane, so I didn't have much time and since they were really cheap, I just bought several packages!

Lämmittelysukat valmistuivat jo ennen joulua, malli on nimeltään Keväällä kerran. Lankana tässä on Vuorelman veto, ja tuo valkoinen oli joku villainen jämälanka.

My warm-up sock were ready already before Christmas. The pattern is called Keväällä kerran and the yarn is Vuorelman veto, except for the white one, which is some woolen leftover yarn.

Ensimmäisen etapin sukat, In Memoriam, ovat edenneet ensimmäisen sukan kantapäähän asti. En pidä kirjoneuleen neulomisesta paljon koska se on niin hidasta ja työlästä, ja vaikka kuinka löysäilisin niin siitä tulee liian tiukkaa. Malli on kyllä kaunis!

The first leg is a pattern called In Memoriam, and I've knitted onto the first heel. I don't like knitting colored knitting because it is labor-intensive and slow and no matter how loose I knit, the end result is still too tight. The pattern is really pretty, though!

Olen askarrellutkin, lähinnä kirjekuoria vanhoista kalentereista, kuvista ja kartoista.

Flunssapäivitys / An update accompanied by the flu

Onpa melkoisen pitkä aika kulunut edellisestä päivityksestä. Työtahti on tänä syksynä ollut niin kiireinen etten ole juuri muuta kerennyt kuin olla töissä ja kulkea töihin/töistä. Nyt sairaspäivinä ehtii sitten päivittää blogiakin, leipoa sämpylöitä, imuroida ja mitä nyt jaksaakaan.

It's been a way too long time since I last updated. The pace at my workplace has been hectis, and I haven't had time for anything else but being at work or commuting.  Now on my sick leave I have some time to update the blog, bake rolls, and vacuum and whatever I have enough energy to do.

Tänään aamulla soitin antikvariaattiin että hakisivatko ison kirjasatsin pois, ja he halusivat kuvia ensin. Siispä rupesin ahkeroimaan laatikoita auki ja kuvattavaksi. Välillä piti istua lepäämässä keinutuolissa ja katsoa lifestyle-ohjelmia, mutta sainpahan kirjalaatikot kuvattua.

This morning I called an antiquarian bookshop to fetch twelve boxes of books, but they wanted to see pictures of the books first. So I started working on getting the boxes photographed. Every once in a while I had to rest in a rocking chair and watch lifestyle programs, but I did get the boxes photographed.

Samassa rytäkässä ajattelin virittää antennijohdon yhteen telkkariin, ja sitä myötä löysin jännittävän uuden salaisen sopukan talostamme! Juuri kun olin aamulla lukenut jonkun jutun taloista, joista on löytynyt ties mitä salakäytäviä. Antennijohto piti siis laittaa kulkemaan yläkerrasta alakertaan yhden oven kautta, ja sieltä paljastui sellainen soppi, jonne pääsi vain tikapuilla. Paikasta löyty vanhoja kouluvihkoja, lehtiä ja hiiren jätöksiä. Oikein miellyttävä paikka! En tiedä, tietääkö puolisonikaan tuosta paikasta katon rajassa, yläkerran vessan takana, vaikka on asunut tässä talossa lapsuutensa. Vanhimmat Suomen Kuvalehdet olivat vuodelta 1919, melkein satavuotiaita!

While working on the books I decided to get the antenna cable reaching a TV downstairs, and during this process I found a cool new niche in our house! Just as I had read an article about spooky passageways and hidden rooms in houses this morning. The antenna cable was going to go from upstairs to downstairs through one door, and so I found the little nook which was reachabel only using a ladder. I found old school supplies, magazines, and mouse droppings. What a pleasant place! I don't know if my spouse is even aware of the place. The place is upstairs, behing the upstairs bathroom. The oldest magazines I found were from 1919, almost a hundred year old!

Piti kuitenkin kertomani käsitöistä, joita olen saanut tässä syksyn aikana tehtyä. Neuleinnostus vaan kasvoi sen myötä että päätin osallistua Sukkafinlandiaan. Enää reilu viikko niin alkaa ensimmäinen etappi. En osallistu kovin tosissani, tai ainakaan en halua neulomisesta mitään stressiä. Lämmittelysukkia olen neulonut nyt jo yli kuukauden ja olen vasta ensimmäistä sukkaa neulomassa. Tempaukseen kuuluu että neuloo seitsemän paria sukkia maaliskuuhun mennessä. Se on minulle aivan liian kova tahti. Tai kuka tietää kuinka monet sukat onnistun altaalla löhöillessä uudenvuodenmatkamme aikana saamaan aikaan. :)

What I was going to blog about was handicrafts that I have finished during this fall. My enthusiasm for knitting only grew when I enrolled in a project called SockFinlandia. There's only one week until the first actual pattern will be published. I am not taking the project too seriously, though, I don't want any stress about hobbies. I have been knitting the warmup socks for over a month now and I am still on the first sock. The idea of the project is to knit seven pairs of socks until the end of the project in March. This is way too fast for my pace, but who knows what I can accomplish while I lie at the pool during our New Year's trip. :)

Ameriikanserkulleni tein värikkäät sukat langasta, jota sain viime SNY-kierroksella. Toivottavasti häntä ei haittaa eriparisuus. Malli on Monkey Socks, mikä oli tosi kiva, nopea ja helppo kuvio.

I knitted a pair of odd socks for my American cousin. I got the yarn from the previous secret pal round, and I hope the oddness doesn't bother my cousin. The pattern is called Monkey socks, and it was really fast and easy to knit.

(Toisen) serkkuni kihlatun synttärilahjaksi tein ärjy-värisestä ohuesta sukkalangasta shetland triagle -huivin, ja lahjan saada kiitteli osuvasta väristä vielä jälkeenpäin.

My (other) cousin's fiance celebrated her birthday last weekend, and I knitted a shetland triangle shawl in bright pink for her. She really loved the color!

Tajusin tätä kirjoitellessa että olen viime aikoina ilahduttanut paljon serkkujani, sillä vielä kolmannen serkun pojalle neuloin pyynnöstä sukat. Aloitin toisetkin, mutta toistaiseksi en ole päässyt alkua pidemmälle sillä ohjeessa on haastavampia tekniikoita (esim. kärjestä aloittaminen) ja ohje on hollanniksi, joten vaatii aika paljon tulkintaa. Ehkä ne tulevat jollekin toiselle parivuotiaalle sitten parin vuoden päästä. :D

I realized just now that I have knitted a lot for my cousins lately. The third cousin's son received a pair of socks from me as a commission project. I started another pair for him but so far I haven't progressed further than the very beginning because there's difficult techniques (such as starting from the toe) and the instructions are completely in Dutch, so I have some translating to do in order to figure out how to proceed. Maybe I will finish them for some other two-year old in two years. :D

 

Uusin orkideani ei ole tainnut vuottakaan olla meille ja koko ajan siinä on kukkia, ihan uskomaton tuuri! En yhtään osaa hoitaa orkideoja mutta ilmeisesti teen jotain oikein sillä molemmat niistä kukkivat paljon. 

My newest orchid hasn't been here for more than a year I think and all the time it is blooming, what a lucky thing! I have no idea how to take care of orchids but apparently I do something right because both of them constantly have a lot of flowers.

Nimipäivä / Name day

Ihanaa oli saada onnittelukortti nimipäivänäni! Kiitos salainen ystävä, oli tosi hyvin ajoitettu ylläri. :)

It was lovely to receive a card on my name day! Thank you to my secret pal, who got it just right with the timing. :)

Tänään on ollut hassu päivä; olen ollut kasvohoidossa, saunajoogassa, neulonut (ja juonut sahtia) terassilla ja vielä tanssinut rivitanssia!

Today has been a funny day; I've been at a facial tretament at the beauty therapist, done sauna yoga, knitted (and had sahti - a special type of beer) on a terrace, and danced line dance!

Haluttua lankaa / Desired yarn

Osuimme Saksassa erääseen lankakauppaan Mainzissa, ja sieltä löytyi vyyhdeittäin Wollmeise-lankaa. En tiedä, onko se enää niin haluttua ja nettikaupassa jatkuvasti loppuunmyytyä kuin aiemmin, mutta minun oli ainakin pakko saada sitä! Ostin itselleni kaksi kaunista vyyhtiä, toinen on sukkalankaa (violetti) ja toinen täyttä villaa (vihreä). Vyyhdit eivät olleet niin kalliitta kuin olin odottanut. Kahden woolmeise-vyyhdin lisäksi ostin ihanan pehmoisen vyyhdin alpakkasilkkilankaa harmaana (keskellä).

In Mainz we found a really nice yarn store, where there were skeins and skeins of Wollmeise-yarn. I don’t know if it is still so desired that it is always sold out in the online store, but I had to have it! I bought two skeins for myself, the purple one is sock yarn, and the green one is 100% wool. The skeins were not as expensive as I would have thought. Besides these two wollmeise skeins I bought one skein of alpaca-silk yarn in grey, that is unbelievable soft.

Tekeillä on tällä hetkellä nurmilintu-huivi, jota tuli neulottua junassa Saksassa.

Currently I am working on a pattern called Nurmilintu. I worked on it in a train in Germany.

Tänä keväänä olen myös väritellyt, lähinnä hiihtolomalla Kuusamossa. Laitan tähän pari kuvaa, jotka väritin tusseilla kun sen värityskirjan paperi oli niin liukasta ettei siihen olisi puuvärit tarttuneet.

This spring I’ve also done some coloring, mostly on the winter break in Kuusamo. I’ll add a few photos of colored pictures that I colored with markers since the paper was so slippery that the normal colored pencils didn’t stick.

Toissa viikonloppuna sain puuhailtua myös ompelukoneen parissa. Pitkästä aikaa sain valmiiksi muutamat alushousut vanhoista t-paidoista.

Two weeks ago I also got some sewing done. After a long time I picked up the unfinished panties project and finished them. These are from old t-shirts.

 

Lisäksi värjäsin parit kaupan alushousut, kätevää kun yhdet alushousut maksavat Tokmannilla euron tai pari, ja väriä löytyy kotoa hyvin paljon, niin sillä saa kivanväriset housut. Vihreät ja keltaiset on värjätty dylonin jauhevärillä (sellainen pussi, olisi meillä ollut niitä vanhanaikaisia nappejakin), ja vaaleanpunaiset on koolaid-mehujauheella.

I also dyed some underwear, it is practical when one pair of plain white panties in Tokmanni cost like one euro, and with dyes you can make them cooler. I had a lot of dyes at home. The yellow and the green ones are dyed with dylon powder dye (a small sachet, I would have had also the old-fashioned dye buttons), and the pink ones are dyed with koolaid-juice powder.

Odotan innolla kesää kun ehtii sitten taas kaikenlaisia mielenkiintoisia projekteja!

I am expecting the summer already when I’ll have more time on my hands for interesting projects!
