Viimeinen salainen paketti - ei enää niin salainen! / The last secret package, not so secret anymore!

Jee, viimeinen paketti saapui toissapäivänä! Mukana oli tosi ihania juttuja, kiitokset tuhannesti kun olet lähetellyt näitä paketteja! Pakettien takaa paljastui http://kodinruhtinatar.blogspot.fi/ -blogiin kirjoittava Susanna Maalta.

Yay, the last package arrived on Tuesday! There were a lot of cool things, thank you so much for sending me the nice packages! The sender was Susanna Maalta, who writes in the blog: http://kodinruhtinatar.blogspot.fi/

Paketissa oli bambu-puuvillalankaa tosi kauniissa väreissä, tuikkuja, tarranauhaa, pompulakehikkoja, sukkapuikot (juuri tämän kokoisia tarvitsen eniten!), virkattu kukka, kaunis muistikirja, mehujauheita, ristikoita sekä aivan ihanan värinen kangaskassi, tykästyin kovasti! Juuri kivasti tuollaista kesämatkapuuhaa, ristikkolehden aion ottaa huomenna reissulle Pohjois-Karjalaan.

The package included bamboo-cotton yarn in beautiful colors, small candles, adhesive tape, frames for making pompoms, a crochet flower, knitting needles (exactly the right size!), a beautiful notebook, powder juice (for dyeing), crossword puzzles, and a bag with a really cool patters I love! This package includes a lot of things to do on summer trips, and I plan to take the crossword puzzles with me on our trip to Eastern Finland tomorrow.

Reissuista puheen ollen, pari kuvaa viimeisimmiltä reissuilta. Orimattilassa kynttiläpajassa oli kaunis kynttiläkellari ja samassa villatehtaan vanhoissa tiloissa a la carte -ravintola, jossa maisteltiin täät himoittua erikoissiideriä.

Speaking of trips, a few pictures of recent trips. In Orimattila there was this candle workshop where there was a beautiful candle cellar and in the same building complex that used to house an old textile factory, was a restaurant where we tried this new delicacy cider.

 

Lahdessa osallistuin ystäväni kanssa "kartanoelämää ja kirjailijoita" -aiheiselle opastetulle kierrokselle Mukkulan kartanon tiluksiin. Olipa hauska kierrellä sateessa kartanon mailla ja kuulla sen historiasta. Muut osallistujat oli lähinnä eläkeläisiä, mutta ei se menoa haitannut! Tällaisiin ex tempore -juttuihin pitäisi kyllä osallistua enemmän!

In Lahti I took part in a manor grounds tour with a friend of mine. The tour was themed "manors and authors", the manor is called Mukkulan kartano. It was really fun to tour the grounds in the rain andhear about the history of the place. All the other participants were pensioners, but it was fun nevertheless. I should definitely do more of this kind of ex tempore trips!

Nimipäivä / Name day

Ihanaa oli saada onnittelukortti nimipäivänäni! Kiitos salainen ystävä, oli tosi hyvin ajoitettu ylläri. :)

It was lovely to receive a card on my name day! Thank you to my secret pal, who got it just right with the timing. :)

Tänään on ollut hassu päivä; olen ollut kasvohoidossa, saunajoogassa, neulonut (ja juonut sahtia) terassilla ja vielä tanssinut rivitanssia!

Today has been a funny day; I've been at a facial tretament at the beauty therapist, done sauna yoga, knitted (and had sahti - a special type of beer) on a terrace, and danced line dance!

Välimuistaminen / In-between surprise!

Nolona täytyy myöntää että sain tämän välimuistamisen salaiselta neuleystävältäni jo viikko sitten, mutta työkiireet ja tämän alkuviikon reissu Länsi-Suomeen ovat estäneet koneella istumisen. Ilahduin kovasti ylläristä! Oli mulle uusi lehti, joten oli kiva selailla ohjeita. :) Kesäkäsitöitä löytyi! Kiitoksia siis väliylläristä, vaikka pianhan on jo viimeisen paketinkin aika.

I am embarassed to admit that I received an in-betwewb surprise already a week ago from my secret knitting pal. My busy work schedule and this week's trip to Western Finland have prevented me from sitting in front of the computer. I was really pleased with the surprise! The magazine was new for me, so it was nice to leaf through the pages. Summer craft projects found! Thank you for the surprise, and soon it will be time for the last package.

Tähän voin samalla lisätä pari hassua kuvaa. Ensinnäkin erään päivän grillilounas: kananmunia, makkaraa (80% lihaa) ja maissia. Musta on tullut kunnon lihansyöjä tämän ruokavalion myötä - on vaan niin paljon helpompi saada ne proteiinit ruoasta kuin purkista!

And here I can add a few funny pictures. First I'll post a photo of one day's barbeque-lunch: eggs, a sausage (80% meat) and corn. I've become a true carnivore due to this diet - it is much easier to get the necessary protein from food instead of from a supplement!

Toukokuun SNY-paketti / The surprise package of May

Hain salaisen neuleystäväni lähettämän paketin jo torstaina, mutta koska olin koko viikonlopun poissa kotoa perjantai-aamusta sunnuntai-yöhön niin en ehtinyt aiemmin päivittää aiheesta blogiin. Paketti sisälsi tosi kauniita lankoja, erityisesti raitasukkalangassa on kauniit ja yhteen sointuvat värit! Itse tehty pussukka on tosi suloinen, sehän voisi olla vaikka juhlalaukkuna! Lankojen ja pussukan lisäksi paketissa oli neulonta- ja ompelutarvikkeita sekä kissannameja. Kiitoksia suloisesta paketista! Jäin ehkä kaipaamaan pientä selvitystä siitä, miten tämän paketin sisältö toteutti tuota "omat lempparit" -teemaa, eli ovatko langat ystävälleni lemppareita, vai värimaailma, jne.


I got my secret knitting pal package already on Thursday, but since I spent the whole weekend away from home (Friday morning to Sunday night), I didn't have the chance to blog about it sooner. The package had reaaly pretty yarn inside, especially the striped sock yarn has beautiful colors that fit well together. The small pouch was hand-made, and really cute, even fit for a formal party bag! Additionally to the yarn and the pouch, there were knitting and sewing supplies and cat treats in the package. Thank you for the sweet package! I would have wished for some hints about how the contents fit this month's theme of "personal favorites"; is the yarn the sender's favorite, or the colors etc.?

Viime viikolla postilaatikossa odotti kiva yllätys kun salainen neuleystäväni oli lähettänyt minulle kortin ja ihania tarralappuja. Ensin luulin perhosten olevan koristeita, mutta ne olivatkin muistilappuja, miten kiva idea! Kiitos välimuistamisesta! :)


Last week I found a letter in my mailbox from my secret knitting pal. She had sent me lovely sticky notes. At first I thought the butterflies were some kind of decorations but they turned out to be sticky notes, what a lovely idea! Thanks for the surprise! :)

Ja jotta ei olisi näin lyhyt postaus, laitan tähän myös edellisistä askartelutarvikkeista tekemäni äitienpäiväkortin. Pitääkin muistaa lähettää se tänään jotta ehtii perjantaiksi!


And to avoid such a short update, I'll post a picture of the mother's day card I made from the previous craft supplies. I need to remember to mail it today so that it will make it on Friday!

Peikko on taas vaihteeksi alkanut nukkua söpösti tyynyni vierestä, ja aamulla se kehrää kovasti. Siitä tulee hyvälle tuulelle. Ilmankos se on aamuyöllä väsynyt kun on illalla haastanut riitaa raihnaisen nivelrikkoisen Mörri-paran kanssa. Eilen kun tulin töistä kotiin, tuli yleensä super-laiska Leo ovelle vastaan oikein poikkeuksellisesti iloisena jolkottaen, se pisti hymyilyttämään.

Peikko has again started sleeping beside my pillow, and in the morning he purrs a lot. It gives me a good mood to start the day with. No wonder he is tired in the morning when he has spent the evening bullying poor Mörri, who is in a poor shape due to the osteoarthritis. Yesterday when I arrived home from work, Leo came running to greet me at the door, this made me smile. He is such a lazy cat that he seldom runs!

Huhtikuun lankayllätys / A yarn surprise of April

Huhtikuun salainen neuleystävä -paketti saapui postin noutopisteeseen torstaina, mutta olin iltakoulutuksessa niin myöhään että ehdin noutaa paketin vasta perjantaina. Kaikkia ihanuuksia löytyi paketista sekä neulomiseen että askarteluun. Kissojakin oli muistettu. Paketin lanka on tosi kaunista, Tuku woolin vihreää ja keltaista, tosi kauniita sävyjä! Lisäksi paketissa oli askartelutarvikkeita äitienpäiväkorttiin, kissanherkkutikkuja, suklaata (puoliso ilahtui, minä olen nyt sellaisella matalahiilihydraattisella ruokavaliolla että vain proteiinipatukat ovat sallittuja herkkuja), parini itse tekemä koru sekä taikapapu. Olinkin juuri ajatellut että pitää mennä ostamaan papuja kylvettäväksi niin saisi kasvimaalle paputarhan, tämä taikapapu on hyvä varaslähtö. Laitoin pavulle vettä jo eilen, ohjeen mukaan sitä pitäisi kastella muutaman päivän välein ja sitten kasvaa taikapapu! Kiitos kovasti mieluisasta paketista!

The secret knitting pal package arrived at the post office service point on Thursday, but since I was at an evening training, I fetched the package on Friday. There were so many nice things inside for both paper crafts and knitting, and even the cats got treats. The yarn in the package is really nice, Tuku wool brand in green and yellow, really beautiful tones! Additionally there were craft supplies for a mother's day card, cat treats, chocolate (my fiancé was happy for these, I am now on a low carb diet so protein bars is the only treat allowed), a piece of jewelry made by my pal, and a magic bean. I had just thought I should go buy beans to sow in the vegetable patch, and the magic bean is the perfect head start. I added water for the bean yesterday, and according to the instructions you need to water it every few days and then a magic bea will sprout! Thank you so much for the pleasant package!

Eilen aamulla olisin voinut nukkua pitkään mutta olin sopinut että noudan uuden perheenjäsenemme. Kello oli soimassa jo kuudelta (vapaapäivänä!) ja seitsemältä lähdin ajelemaan lähes puolentoista tunnin matkan hakemaan hamsteria. Valitettavasti kuvat ovat tosi huonoja, hamsteri kun on niin liikkuvainen. Mutta tässä siis muutamia. Hamsteri on lyhytkarvainen musta syyrialainen ainakin toistaiseksi nimeltään Chili, jonka kasvattaja oli antanut. Tosin jo eilen nimi rupesi muotoutumaan Silliksi, sillä täkäläiset eivät varmasti osaa lausua chiliä, ja siitä vitsillä muotoutui "sili" josta saa "silli" helpompi sanoa.

Yesterday morning I could have slept late but I had agreed to go get our new family member. My alarm went off at 6 am (on a day off!) and at 7 am I left and drove nearly an hour and a half to fetch the hamster. Unfortunately the pictures are really bad, the hamster is so lively. But here's a few anyway. This hamster is a short-haired black syrian hamster, who is, at least for now, called Chili, the name the breeder has given her). Although yesterday the name started forming into Silli because the locals here will undoubtedly not be able to pronounce "chili" but say "sili" instead, so as a joke about that the form "silli", which is easier to say, was formed. Silli is a herring in Finnish. :)

Meillä ei olekaan ollut hamstereita varmaan neljään vuoteen, mutta Leo on tottunut hamstereihin, sitä ei voisi vähempää kiinnostaa. Peikko sen sijaan tuijotti hamsteria jo kuljetusboksissa hullun kiilto silmissään. Joka kerta kun Peikko kohotti tassuaan tökkäistäkseen hamsteria, kielsin sitä ja suihkutin suihkupullostakin. Ehkä se vähitellen oppii että katsoa saa mutta koskea ei. Onneksi hamsteri ei häiriinny että joku tuijottaa sitä terraarion ulkopuolelta. Viime yönä jouduin pari kertaa älähtämään Peikolle, joka yritti hyppiä terraarion verkkokannen päälle. Jos Peikon metsästysviettiä ei saa taltutettua, hamsteri siirretään talon kissattomaan osaan.

We havent' had hamsters for about four years, but Leo is used tgo hamsters, he couldn't care less. Peikko, however, stared at the hamster in the trasport box with a mad look in his eyes. Every time Peikko lifted his paw to "touch" the hamster, I forbid and sprayed water from the spray bottle. Maybe he will learn eventually. Fortunately the hamster doesn't mind staring from the outside of the terrarium. Last night I had to shout at Peikko a few times when he tried to jump on top of the lid of the terrarium. If Peikko's instinct for hunting can't be tamed, we'll move the hamster to the part of the house where the cats aren't allowed.

Tänään on luvassa grillinostoa, kasvimaan suunnittelua ja illalla juhlat mukavien ihmisten kanssa! Niin, ja juoksuharjoitus pitää änkeä johonkin väliin.

Today we'll go shopping for a grill, plan the vegetable patch, and go to a party with nice people in the evening. Oh yes, and a running exercise needs to be done.

Yllätyspostia ja huonekasveja

Jo viime viikolla sain mukavaa postia salaiselta neuleystävältäni, mutta en millään ehtinyt saada sitä blogiin asti ennen kuin nyt. Viikonloppuihin tuntuu kasautuvan kaikki hommat mitä ei kerkiä viikolla tekemään. Kiitoksia kivasta yllätyksestä! Askartelulehti on täynnä hauskoja ideoita, eikä yhtään haittaa vaikka on viime vuoden, ajankohtainen silti! :)

Last week I received mail from my secret knitting pal, but I didn't have the energy to post about it until now. All the smaal things left undone during the work week are left to do on the weekend. Thank you for the pleasant surprise! The craft magazine is full of fun ideas, and it doesn't bother one bit that it is last year's magazine. :)

Kevät on täällä, ja lumetkin ovat melkein sulaneet, vaikka hiihtolatujakin tästä kunnasta vielä löytyy. Olen kylvänyt jo joitain siemeniä ikkunan alle kasvamaan, tomaatit jo itävätkin. Kaheli joulukaktus on taas intoutunut kukkimaan, vastahan se kukki (kuten kuuluukin) joulukuussa. Ehkä se vaan tykkää olla vanhassa voikirnussa. :D

the spring is here, and the snow is nearly gone, even though there are still some ski tracks in this municipality. I've sowed some seeds by the windod, and the tomatoes are already sprouting. The crazy Christmas Cactus is flowering again, even though it created flowers in December, like it is supposed to. Maybe it just enjoys its life in the old butter churn. :D

Kuvasin samalla mangopuun ja avokadon, joista jälkimmäinen on taas hujahtanut pitkän matkan ylöspäin vaikka kuinka yritän saada sitä haarautumaan leikkaamalla sitä.

I took pictures of the mango tree and the avocado tree, the latter having recently grown many inches upwards, even though I try to get it to fork by cutting it.

Tässä vielä lähempää näitä istutuksiani. Pienet vihreät kasvit ovat omenapuun taimia oman pihan omenoista. 

Here's a closer look on my indoor garden now. The small sprouts are tiny apple trees from the apples in our garden.

Olimme Saksassa reilu viikko sitten, ja siellä oli jo ihan kevät! Ehkä päivitän siitä reissusta myöhemmin blogiinkin, tai ainakin pitää hehkuttaa siellä tehtyjä lankahankintoja (lanka joka alkaa tuplaveellä...). Nyt toistaiseksi sieltä vain kuva kauniisti kukkivasta mimosasta.

A bit over a week ago we were in Germany, and it was already spring there! Maybe I'll post something about that trip later, or at least I need to blog about some yarn I found there (a brand that starts with the letter w...). For now I'll just put a picture of a lovely blooming mimosas.

Ensimmäinen SNY-paketti! / The first secret knitting pal -package!

Eilen sain noutaa paketin postiautomaatista, ja kotona pääsin tutustumaan sen sisältöön. Ensin löytyi kukkanauhaa (sopivaa askarteluun!), servettejä ja kaunis oranssi tiskirätti. Tulee taatusti tarpeeseen ja voisin heittää vanhoja riekaleina olevia rättejä jo kohta pois. :) Sitten se pallo... Oli niin todella ohutta lankaa että ikä ja terveyshän siinä meinasi mennä! Salaisella ystävälläni on varmasti kulunut todella paljon aikaa paketin pakkaukseen.

I fetched my first secret knitting pal package yesterday for the mailbox machine. At home I finally got to open it. First, I found some flower ribbon (suitable for crafts), serviettes, and a beautiful orange dish cloth. This one will definitely end up in use and I could of course throw away some of the worn out ones. :) Then there was the yarn bal... The yarn was so thin that I was about to lose my mind unraveling it! My secret pal has used massive amounts of time packing this package up!

 Eväänä olleet lohileivätkään eivät riittäneet, ja piti ottaa apukädetkin avuksi että pallo avautui. Täytyy nyt kyllä myöntää että vaikka taikapallo on kiva ajatus, niin on se aika pöhköä touhua, ja ehkä seuraavaa kierrosta ajatellen voisin sanoa tulevalle parilleni etten välttämättä välitä niin taikapallosta.

The salmon sandwiches  as a snack were finished way before I unraveled the ball, and I had to ask for extra hands to help me. I have to admit that even though the magic yarn ball idea is nice, it seems a bit silly, and maybe, thinking about the future rounds, I could tell my pal not to send me a magic yarn ball.

Mutta pallosta löytyi mieluisia ylläreitä: pieniä neulomisen apuvälineitä (mihin käytetään lyhyitä sukkapuikkoja? sormikkaisiin? :D ), askartelutavaroita, nenäliinoja (mistä tiesitkin että minulla on aina nuha?!), teetä sekä suklaamunia, jotka suurin osa jo katosi. Kuinka tuskaisaa olikaan nähdä ne suklaamunat siellä pallossa ja keriä keriä mutta ei saa, meinasi usko loppua että ei sitä ikinä saa suklaata. :P

But what nice surprises I found inside the ball: small knitting equipment (how are the short stocking needles used? for gloves?, craft supplies, tissues (how did you guess I always have a runny nose?), tea, and chocolate eggs, most of which are already eaten. It was agonizing to unravel unravel unravel the ball while seeing the chocolates but not getting your hand on them!

Lanka on tuttua, mutta väri ei ehkä ole sellainen, mihin olisin osannut itse tarttua. Tuli langasta mieleen veden värit, ja liukuvärjätyt langat ovat kaikki tosi kauniita. Mielessäni jo kehittelin että tästä langasta saisi tehtyä esim. kesävoisukat, joita olen tehnyt Drops Delightista sekä vihreästä Regian vastaavasta sukkalangasta.

The yarn itself is familiar to me, but the color is not one I would have otherwise picked. The color reminds me of the colors of water, and the space-dyed yarns are all really beautiful. I thought I could knit "kesävoi" -socks with this yarn, I have previously made them from Drops Delight and also this Regia sock yarn but in a dark green shade.

Muutaman vuoden tauon jälkeen päätin osallistua jälleen salainen neuleystävä –kierrokselle. Eilen löytyikin postilaatikosta salaisen ystäväni ensimmäinen yhteydenotto – värityskortti! Kiitos paljon salainen ystävä, odotan jo innolla paketteja!


After a few years I decided to participate in a “secret knitting buddy” –round this spring. Yesterday I found the first postcard – a coloring card – from my secret pal. Thank you so much, SNY, I am already anxiously waiting for the packages!

Mulla on arkisin hyvin vähän aikaa kotona valveilla, noin 2,5-3 tuntia normipäivinä, ja siitäkin useimmiten puolet menee seuraavan työpäivän valmisteluun kuten eväiden tekemiseen, tavaroiden pakkaamiseen ja muuhun välttämättömään kuten kissoista huolehtimiseen, kukkien kastelemiseen tai suihkussa käyntiin. Eilen tullut kortti oli siinä mielessä juuri oikeaan aikaan, sillä ehdin puoleksi tunniksi istahtaa sen ansiosta, väritin korttia ja katselin häämekko-ohjelmaa samalla. :)

During work days I have only a little bit of time at home in the evenings before going to bed, about 2,5 to 3 hours on normal days. About a half of this time is spent in preparing for the next day, like preparing food, packing lunch and snacks, finding things and packing or other necessary chores like taking care of the cats, watering the plants or taking a shower. The cars arrived just at the right moment since because of that I had a chance to sti down for a half an hour to color while watching Say yes to the Dress. :)
