SNY joulukuun paketti / secret pal package December

Eilen sain ilmoituksen noudettavasta paketista. Olin seuraillut sen vaiheita postin sovelluksella jo jonkin aikaa eikä se ollut ilmeisesti mahtunut pakettiautomaattiin vaan kulkeutui ärrälle.

Yesterday I got a message of a package. I had followed its journey already for a while with the post app and apparently it hadn't fit into the package automatic package dispenser but had been taken to the R-kiosk instead.

Paketissa oli mieluisia villalankoja, parini oli ajatellut huovutustöitä, ja nuo värit sopisivatkin kivasti tossuiksi, en olekaan aikoihin neulonut mitään huovutettavaa. Lisäksi paketissa oli pannulappuja, suklaata (osa nostalgisista kissankielistä katosi jo samantien, piti pyytää puolisoa piilottamaan ne minulta!), kortti sekä ihanalta tuoksuvaa ranskan äijän (anoppini sanonta) käsirasvaa. There were nice yarn in the package, my pal had thought of felting, and I agree that the colors would work well in felted slippers, I haven't been doing anything felted in ages! Besides yarn, there were kettleholders, chocolate (some of the nostalgic "cat's tongues" already disappeared quickly and I had to ask my spouse to hide the rest from me!), a card, and lovely scented hand cream from "the French dude" (my mother-in-law's saying). Pikapäivitys paketista / A quick update on the parcel

Tänään tuli tekstari että pakettiautomaatissa odottaa yllätys. Sopivasti kurvasin sitä kautta kotimatkalla. Paketista löytyi kivanvärisiä villalankoja sekä jouluristipisto ja pieni led-tuikku. Kiitoksia ja mukavaa joulunodotusta parilleni!

Today I got an sms announcement that I can fetch a package from the package storage machine. It was conveniently on my way home. Inside the package were some nice shades of wool yarn, a Christmas cross-stich, and a small led-light. Thank you my secret pal and enjoy the holidays!

SNY lokakuu / Secret package October

Olinkin jo odotellut lokakuun pakettia jonkin aikaa, ja tällä viikolla se viimein saapui. Paketista löytyi kivoja alpakkalankoja ja hauska virkattu tonttu, joka pääsi ikkunalaudalle vahtimaan. Pätkävärjätty lanka ei niin kovin ole mieleeni (kuten ilmoittautumisessa sanoinkin) mutta tämä on harvinaisen hillitynvärinen, joten ehkä siitä voi jotain syntyä. Asustelehti oli minulle uusi ja sieltä löytyikin muutama mukavankuuloinen ohje! Kiitos parilleni paketista!

I had been waiting for the October package for some time, and this week it finally arrived. There were some nice alpaca yarn balls inside, and a fun crocheted elf, which found its way onto the windowsill to have a lookout. The yarn with the rapid color changes is not so much into my liking (as I mentioned in my information sheet) but this one is not so over-the-top so it might form into something. The magazine with the accessory patterns is new to me, and I found a few nice patterns there! Thank you for the package!

 

 

Tänään on kuulemma tilastollisesti vuoden harmain päivä, mutta meillä sitä on vietetty puutarhahommissa aurinkoisessa säässä. Sain viimein laajennettua kasvimaata, ja siihen roudattiin kompostimultaa päälle. Kylvin juureksia (mm. palsternakkaa, punajuurta, porkkanaa) sekä muutamaa yrttiä (tilli, persilja) jo näin syksyllä, kuulemma kasvaisivat keväällä aiemmin. Peitin istutukset lehdillä; toivotaan että onnistuvat!

Today is apparently statistically the grayest day of the year, but here we've had a sunny day with plenty of yard work. I finally managed to expand my vegetable patch, got some compost soil on top, and sowed some root vegetables (parsnip, redbeet, carrot, etc.) and a few herbs (dill, parsley) already in the autumn, so they should sprout earlier in the spring. I covered them in leaves, so let's hope they succeed!

Salainen neuleystävä: ensimmäinen paketti / Secret knitting pal: first package

Hain toissapäivänä pakettiutomaatista ensimmäisen pakettini vain puoli tuntia ilmoituksen saapumisen jälkeen. Kivoja lankoja oli parini valinnut, ja käsityölehdestä erityisesti keltaiset kirjoneulesukat vaikuttivat mukavalta. Yleensä en ole innostunut kirjoneuleista mutta nyt ne miellyttävät silmää ja aloitin viikko sitten yhdet kirjoneulesukat! Suklaat syötiin jo parissa päivässä, ja suloinen käsirasva päätyi suoraan reppuuni ja käyttöön. Kiitos salaiselle ystävälleni ilahduttavasta paketista!

The day before yesterday I fetched my first secret knitting pal package from the post box machine only a half an hour later from the message telling me it is available. What nice yarn my pair had chosen for me, and the knitting magazine is nice, I laid my eyes on one yellow multi-colored pattern for socks. I am usually not into multi-colored knitting but now I did start a project in that style a week ago. We ate the chocolates already in two days, and the cute little hand cream went straight to my backpack and is already in use. Thank you for my secret pal for the delightful package!

Salaisen neuleystävän tervehdys! / Secret pal greeting!

Tulihan se sieltä, meinaan salaisen neuleystäväni kortti, joka on tosi suloinen! Kortti on kärsinyt matkalla, taittunut vähäsen. Hyvä että löysi kuitenkin perille, kiitos salaiselle ystävälleni suloisesta kortista! Vaikuttaa siltä, että kortista on unohtunut osoite, sillä osoite on kirjoitettu nimeni alle eri kynällä ja käsialalla, mikä osoittaa postin hienon salapoliisintyön että kortti löysi perille täysin ilman osoitetta. Onneksi samannimisiä ei ole muita Suomessa.

Here it is, the first contact card from my secret knitting pal, and it's really cute! The card has been through some rough handling and it has bended. Good thing that it found me, though, thank you my secret pal for the cute card! It looks like the card lacked an address because the address is written below my name with a different pen and handwriting, which proves the efficient detective work at the Finnish post office that the card found me without any address! Luckily I am the only person by this name in Finland.

SNY Here we come (again)

Menin ilmoittautumaan (jälleen) salaiseen neuleystävään vaikka rahatilanne on kehnohko enkä todellakaan tarvitse lisää lankaa. Viimeksi osallistuin keväällä 2017 ja tämä on jo kuudes kerta alkaen vuodesta 2010. Odotan jo innolla pakettien kasaamista ja lähettelyä! SNY-kierroksesta inspiroituneena päätin sitten pitkästä aikaa päivittää blogiakin, kun tänne pian tulee kuitenkin SNY-postauksia.

Once again I enrolled to secret knitting pal even though my financial situation isn't that good and I most definitely do not need any more yarn. I took part in 2017, and this is my sixth time since 2010. I am eager to put together packages and to receive them! Inspired by the secret pal I though I'f finally update this blog, which I will be updating about the packages later.

Kesä kului remontoiden (ja hyvin paljon näköjään päivitin remontin vaiheista tänne), matkaillen Yhdysvalloissa ja koti-Suomessa sekä kirjoitellen kirjeitä, uiden ja syöden jäätelöä.

My summer was spent with renovating (of which' phases I failed to report here), traveling in The States and domestically, writing letters, swimming, and eating ice cream.

Pari viikkoa sitten palasin töihin kesätauon jälkeen ja tyrmistyin kun kukaan ei ollut muistanut tilata opekalentereita, ja mä olen ihan hukassa ilman kalenteria! No sitten yhtenä päivänä sattui olemaan asiaan pääkaupungin keskustan suuntaan ja kävin sitten suomalaisesta ostamassa tuollaisen pikkuisen muistikirjan, josta alkoi muotoutumaan jotain kalenterin/bullet journalin kaltaista.

A few weeks ago I returned to work after the summer vacation and I was appalled to find out nobody had ordered the teacher's calendars, and I am totally lost without a calendar! Well one day I happened to have errands to run in Helsinki center and I stopped by a book store to buy a small notebook, which began to take the form of a calendar/bullet journal.

Meillä on töissä kaikki melkoisen sekaisin hallinnollisista syistä ja organisaatiouudistuksesta johtuen joten perustyötä on melko hankala tehdä. Siispä olen töissä paljon koristellut kalenteria ja teippaillut asioita seinille ja jopa koristellut värinokkosen ruukun kun työkaverini kiikutti mulle sinne tuollaisen kasvin.

At work there's a chaos due to administrative issues and organisatorial changes so it seems to be pretty difficult to do my normal job. So I've spent a lot of time at work decorating my calendar and taping things to the walls and even decorating the pot of a plant my colleague brought me one day.

Viime viikonloppuna meillä oli ameriikanserkkuja kylässä, ja tehtailin heille kullekin kangaskassit sillä heidän maansa todella tarvitsee kestokasseja! Se muovipussien ja pillien ja kertisastioiden määrä Amerikassa oli jotain niin järkyttävää. Mutta ehkä onnistun kertomaan matkastamme tarkemmin jossain myöhemmässä postauksessa. Seuraavaksi suuntaamme lokakuun Provenceen, lasken jo viikkoja syyslomaani kun töissä on semmoista härdelliä että ajatus lomasta piristää (7 viikkoa).

Last weekend we had six American relatives visiting, and I sewed each of them a tote bag because their country is in dire need of eco bags! The amount of plastic bags, straws, and other disposable dishes in USA was disturbing. Maybe I'll have the chance to write a post about our trip later. Next up we will travel to Provence in October, and I am already counting weeks until my autumn break because the though of vacation makes me tolerate the chaos at work a lot better (7 weeks).

Kesälomalla valtasin ruokasalin pöydän palapelille, jota olen pantannut kaapissa varmaan kymmenen vuotta. Nyt viimein sain sen edes aloitettua! Kuka tulisi kanssani tekemään palapeliä, otettais muutamat lasilliset viiniä (tai kuohuviiniä sain viime viikonloppuna synttärilahjaksi oikein pullokaupalla!) ja vietettäisiin palapeli-iltaa. :)

During my summer vacation I created a jigsaw puzzle area on the dining room table. This puzzle has been in the closet for like ten years, and now I finally started it! Who would like to join me for a puzzle night? We'd have some wine (I've got plenty of bottles of sparkling wine that I got as birthday presents a few days ago!) and try fitting pieces together. :)

Muutakin kuin kasseja on tullut ommeltua. Tein puolihameen jostain vanhasta pöytäliinasta (kuvassa alla) ja sellaisen juhlapuseron melkein valmiiksi. Kumpikin on hitusen kesken, puserosta puuttuu helmakäänne kun en osaa päättää, kuinka pitkä sen tulisi olla, ja hameesta puuttuu ainoastaan nappi; napinläpikin on jo valmiina.

Besides tote bags I've been sewing other stuff as well. I made a skirt out of an old tablecloth (below picture), and a blouse, and both of them are nearly ready. The blouse just needs the hemline to be sewn once I decide how long it will be, and the skirt still needs on button (the hole for it is ready!).

Yksi yö olin joutunut liikkumaan pois tietokonehuoneesta kun sinne tuli muutama ampiainen, mokomakin riesa tässä elokuussa. Siispä olin siirtynyt alakertaan askarteluhuoneeseen lukemaan. Siinä vaiheessa oli vielä tosi kuuma, ja nukuimme alakerrassa. Huoneessa oli ikkunat auki ja yhtäkkiä pääni yläpuolella läpätteli lepakko! Yritimme tökkiä sitä ulospäin mutta siellä se katonrajassa vaan lenteli puolelta toiselle, joten jouduin evakuoitumaan jo toisen kerran samana yönä! Nukuin yöni sitten yläkerran makuuhuoneessa, ja lepakko oli yön aikana löytänyt tiensä ulos avoimista ikkunoista.

One night I had had to move out of the computer room because a few wasps flew in. They've really been annoying this August! So I moved downstairs in our craft room to read. It was still really hot so we both had beds downstairs. The windows were open and suddenly there was a bat fluttering above my head! We tried to poke it towards the open windows but it kept flying around in the ceiling. So I had to evacuate myself for the second time that night! I slept upstairs in the bedroom and by the morning the bat had found itself out the windows.

SAY, toinen ja kolmas lähetys / A package from the secret craft buddy

No johan nyt on kummallista, toinen salaisen askarteluystäväni pakettihan jäi tulematta, miten kummallista että posti hukkaa jotain (kannattaa reklamoida sen seurantakoodin avulla että paketti katosi!). Vielä kummallisempaa on, että vaikuttaa siltä, että  minä ja http://neuloosiinsairastunut.blogspot.fi/ -blogin pitäjä olemme lähetelleet toisillemme paketteja! Aika omituinen sattuma, yleensähän salaiset ystävät toimivat ringissä.


Well this is odd, the second package from my secret craft buddy is still MIA, it is very weird that the post loses something (you should definitely send them a complaint!). Even more odd is that it seems like the person behind the blog http://neuloosiinsairastunut.blogspot.fi/, whom I was sending packages, was also sending packages to me! What a coincidence, usually these secret pal -projects work in a circle.


No, eipä siinä mitään, hassu yhteensattuma. Minulle siis selvisi sunnuntaina hakemani paketin myötä, kuka salainen ystäväni on ollut. Paketissa sain kompensaatiota myös kadonneesta paketista, mikä ihana yllätys, ei olisi tarvinnut, eihän se ole lähettäjän vika mikäli posti jotain hukkaa.


All in all a funny thing. I fetched the package on Sunday, and realized who my secret pal had been. The package included some compensation of the lost package as well. You didn't need to, it is definitely the post office's fault and not the sender's!

Paketissa oli kivanvärisiä korttipohjia, tarroja ja perhosia. Lisäksi ekstratavaraa kadonneet paketin tilalle: paljon tarroja, helmiä, nauhaa, paperia, kirjekuoria. Aivan ihania tavaroita! Kiitoksia kovasti salaiselle askartelutystävälleni, ja toivottavasti sinua on miellyttäneet minun lähettämät paketit!

The package included yellow and green cards, stickers, and butterflies. On top of that, there was extra stuff for the lost package: a lot of stickers, pearls, ribbon, paper, envelopes. A wonderful variety of craft supplies! Thank you so much to my secret craft pal, I hope you've been enjoying the packages I've been sending!

Ensimmäinen SNY-paketti! / The first secret knitting pal -package!

Eilen sain noutaa paketin postiautomaatista, ja kotona pääsin tutustumaan sen sisältöön. Ensin löytyi kukkanauhaa (sopivaa askarteluun!), servettejä ja kaunis oranssi tiskirätti. Tulee taatusti tarpeeseen ja voisin heittää vanhoja riekaleina olevia rättejä jo kohta pois. :) Sitten se pallo... Oli niin todella ohutta lankaa että ikä ja terveyshän siinä meinasi mennä! Salaisella ystävälläni on varmasti kulunut todella paljon aikaa paketin pakkaukseen.

I fetched my first secret knitting pal package yesterday for the mailbox machine. At home I finally got to open it. First, I found some flower ribbon (suitable for crafts), serviettes, and a beautiful orange dish cloth. This one will definitely end up in use and I could of course throw away some of the worn out ones. :) Then there was the yarn bal... The yarn was so thin that I was about to lose my mind unraveling it! My secret pal has used massive amounts of time packing this package up!

 Eväänä olleet lohileivätkään eivät riittäneet, ja piti ottaa apukädetkin avuksi että pallo avautui. Täytyy nyt kyllä myöntää että vaikka taikapallo on kiva ajatus, niin on se aika pöhköä touhua, ja ehkä seuraavaa kierrosta ajatellen voisin sanoa tulevalle parilleni etten välttämättä välitä niin taikapallosta.

The salmon sandwiches  as a snack were finished way before I unraveled the ball, and I had to ask for extra hands to help me. I have to admit that even though the magic yarn ball idea is nice, it seems a bit silly, and maybe, thinking about the future rounds, I could tell my pal not to send me a magic yarn ball.

Mutta pallosta löytyi mieluisia ylläreitä: pieniä neulomisen apuvälineitä (mihin käytetään lyhyitä sukkapuikkoja? sormikkaisiin? :D ), askartelutavaroita, nenäliinoja (mistä tiesitkin että minulla on aina nuha?!), teetä sekä suklaamunia, jotka suurin osa jo katosi. Kuinka tuskaisaa olikaan nähdä ne suklaamunat siellä pallossa ja keriä keriä mutta ei saa, meinasi usko loppua että ei sitä ikinä saa suklaata. :P

But what nice surprises I found inside the ball: small knitting equipment (how are the short stocking needles used? for gloves?, craft supplies, tissues (how did you guess I always have a runny nose?), tea, and chocolate eggs, most of which are already eaten. It was agonizing to unravel unravel unravel the ball while seeing the chocolates but not getting your hand on them!

Lanka on tuttua, mutta väri ei ehkä ole sellainen, mihin olisin osannut itse tarttua. Tuli langasta mieleen veden värit, ja liukuvärjätyt langat ovat kaikki tosi kauniita. Mielessäni jo kehittelin että tästä langasta saisi tehtyä esim. kesävoisukat, joita olen tehnyt Drops Delightista sekä vihreästä Regian vastaavasta sukkalangasta.

The yarn itself is familiar to me, but the color is not one I would have otherwise picked. The color reminds me of the colors of water, and the space-dyed yarns are all really beautiful. I thought I could knit "kesävoi" -socks with this yarn, I have previously made them from Drops Delight and also this Regia sock yarn but in a dark green shade.

EDIT 6.3.17: Vielä yritys korjata kuvat (pitääkö ne oikeasti ladata google photos -pilvipalvelusta ensin tikulle tiedostolle ja sitten vasta saa blogiin? Ja ollaan olevinaan niin älypuhelinta ja pilvipalvelua nykyään!)

EDIT March 6th, 2017: Another try to fix the photos (Can it be possible that you need to download the pictures from google photos to a memory stick first in order to get them to this blog ? And we're supposed to be all smart phone this and cloud systems that!)

Ensimmäistä kertaa osallistun salainen askarteluystävä –rinkiin. Askartelumaailma ei ehkä ole minulle niin tuttu. Kortteja on tullut tehtyä, ja sitten koristelen mielelläni kirjepapereita itse. Siispä mielenkiinnolla odottelen yllätyslähetyksiä!

For the first time I am participating in a “sercet craft buddy” –round. The craft world is not that familiar to me. I’ve mainly created cards, and I also decorate stationery myself. With enthusiasm I am looking forward to the surprise deliveries!


Toissapäivänä olin neljän aikaan töissä pakkailemassa tavaroita lähteäkseni kotia kohti kun sain tekstiviesti-ilmoituksen että kodin lähellä olevassa pakettiautomaatissa odotti paketti. Siinä vaiheessa harmitti että kestäisi vielä lähes kaksi tuntia ennen kuin pääsisin sille automaatille kun työmatka on niin pitkä, bussi aina myöhässä, ja autokin piti vielä tankata.


The day before yesterday as I was packing my stuff at work around four pm about to leave work, I got a text message saying I have a package in a package machine waiting for me. At that moment I was sorry to have such a long commute, it would take nearly two hours for me to get to the machine because the buses are always late and the tank of the car needed to be refueled.

Maltoin kuitenkin kotiin asti avaamattoman paketin kanssa. Ja mitä aarteita sieltä löytyikään! Ihan mieletön paketti kaikenlaista värikästä! Tarrat olivat tosi suloisia (yhden arkin käytinkin eilen aamubussissa kirjepaperien valkoiselle takapuolelle), ja lisäksi paketista löytyi liimattavia kuvia (erityisesti perhoset ovat ihania! <3 ), kreppipaperia, serviettejä, nauhoja (erityisesti vaaleanvihreä, jossa on sydämiä on mieluinen!), korujuttuja (korupiikit on aina tarpeen), paperinarua, pieniä metallinhohtoisia kukkasia (nämäkin sopisi kirjepapereihin) ja pahvia. Aivan mieletön paketti, kiitoksia kovasti!


But I did hold my horses until I was at home and could open the package. And what wonderful things I found! An awesome assortment of all kinds of colorful things! The stickers were really cute (I already used one sheet of them on the white sides of stationery). Additionally, the package included pictures (especially the butterflies are lovely! <3 ), crêpe paper, serviettes, ribbons (the lime green one with tiny hearts was my favorite!), jewelry material (the jewelry spikes are always necessary), paper thread, small metallic flowers (these suit the stationery decorations as well), and cardboard. An extravagant package, thank you so much!


Ja loppuun kuva Mörristä, joka satunnaisesti on kaverini. Ja kyllä, hän useimmiten näyttää vihaiselta. :D


In the end a picture of Mörri, who every now and then is my buddy. And yes, most of the time she does look that intimidating. :D
